James Arthur Baldwin (August 2, 1924 – December 1, 1987) was an American novelist, playwright and activist. His essays explore situations of racial, sexual, and class distinctions in Western societies, most notably in 1950s North America.
Baldwin’s work was mostly but not limited to the intricacies of being black in the United States of America in the mid-20th century. His essays and autobiographies were focused on the fact of being gay or bi sexual at such a limiting time.
